Design Procedure
- Find out if the design has been registered before or not. The Design Office can assist you with the search.
- A precise representation of the design should be prepared on white A4 size paper of robust quality.
- A design must be categorized in a particular class in order to register systematically. An internationally accepted classification of Industrial Designs based on the function of the item is required on the application.
- The applicant must provide a statement of novelty as per the Act in order to make claim. This will expedite the application process and provide more specific protection.
- If the applicant has applied for protection of the design in convention countries, then they can register the design by citing a priority date in India. This is the date on which the application was filed in any convention countries. However, the application should be filed in India within six months.
