Any original work of creativity can be copyrighted in India through the Copyright Office. After filing the copyright application, the author will have to wait for a mandatory period of 30 days for any objections made by the Copyright Office. If there is an objection to the claims made by the author, then there will be a further waiting period of 30 days during which an opportunity for both parties to attend a hearing may take place.
If there is no objection raised by the examiner, then the application get automatically filed. However, the examiner may ask for additional documents, which will have to be submitted within 30 days. Once the documents are in order and the examiner is satisfied, a Certificate of Registration will be issued to the author. The author will then enjoy the privilege of getting their work copyrighted for the next 60 years, which is the general rule in India.
